Optimism 2010 is presented by Icograda in partnership with the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).

ICOGRADA. LEADING CREATIVELY

Icograda (the International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is the world body for professional communication design. Founded in 1963, it is a voluntary assembly of organisations concerned with graphic design, visual communication, design management, promotion, education, research and journalism. Icograda promotes communication designers' vital role in society and commerce and unifies the voices of graphic designers and visual communicators worldwide.

Mission, Vision and Values

The vision, mission and core values of the council are collectively embodied in the statement 'leading creatively' and manifested through our Members' diverse activities to use design as a medium for progressive change.

Defining the Profession

Communication design is an intellectual, technical and creative activity concerned not simply with the production of images but with the analysis, organisation and methods of presentation of visual solutions to communication problems.

International Affiliations

Icograda maintains consultative status with UNESCO, UNIDO and WIPO. Icograda is a member of IFRRO and is in liaison with technical committees of ISO.

On behalf of the Icograda Executive Board and our members in 67 countries and regions around the globe, I look forward to welcoming you when we gather in October 2010 in Brisbane.

Through the theme of ‘Optimism’, Icograda Design Week in Brisbane 2010 will promote dialogue on issues shaping the nature and relevance of communication design practice today. Optimism highlights our ability to create positive change by problem solving through design.

Icograda regards the Icograda Design Week in Brisbane 2010 as an opportunity to build on existing relationships and create new dialogue with Members, key stakeholders and decision makers driving the global agenda.

AUSTRALIAN GRAPHIC DESIGN ASSOCIATION (AGDA)

With more than 2 600 members distributed throughout the creative, visual communication, applied design and technology sectors, the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) is dedicated to advancing the profession through an interrelated program of state, national and international activities in education, advocacy and professional development. Many of these activities are also available to the wider design and business communities.

AGDA's goal is the establishment of fair and productive working relationships between graphic designers and their clients. They do this by providing designers with the tools and information to manage their professional careers. AGDA also works on increasing awareness of the value and importance of graphic design in business, education and culture.
